Support to prosper.
Space to thrive.
Through innovative housing, PERIS Foundation partners with young people aging out of foster care to navigate early adulthood.
When PERIS was first imagined, we wanted to know what kind of housing options, designed specifically for young adults who had experienced foster care, were out there. We scoured the country and found that these young people had been overlooked. In Minnesota and throughout the country there is a severe lack of deeply affordable, supportive housing for young adults aging out of foster care.
That research led to the solid conclusion that it was time to try something new in supportive housing for fosters aging out.
PERIS Hill is that something new. We worked with an advisory board of youth with experience in foster care to design an innovative model of supportive housing that would address needs for support and autonomy. PERIS Hill is a beautiful, mixed-income apartment building with market rate amenities and opportunities that also provides onsite support staff, employment and education navigation, mental health training, financial assistance, and basic needs support. It's a place to be proud of and participate.
YMCA case managers and PERIS Hill staff are onsite daily and into the evening for support and for those organic “kitchen counter” conversations. Our partnership with Kente Circle provides access to licensed therapists and mental health training. Other community partners provide training on things like education, employment, finances, and movement.
At PERIS young people shape their experience, practicing autonomy in an interconnected and supportive environment.
